A BLOG POST REGARDING THE TEACHER APPRECIATION LUNCH From the first day in Kindergarten, to the day of graduation, perhaps one of the most important individuals within a student's life would be teachers. Teachers are not only the people that students spend most of their time with, however, they are also the individuals that a student learns the most significant life lessons from. On June 2nd, our tourism class had held an appreciation lunch for the hard-working teachers here at Khalsa Secondary. The lunch cumulatively had been a success, with all of the teachers content with the lunch. However, in order to make the lunch a success, it had been obligatory for all of the students to put in a significant amount of effort towards the lunch. In the following blog post, I will be discussing my input towards the lunch. Initially, my contributions toward the lunch began with sorting out the ingredients delegated to us by the grade twelves, and researching regarding where to find the ingredients. During this process, I had assisted finding the ingredients and as to where they should be purchased from. Once this had been completed, our class had decided to divide duties according to two different projects. Therefore, until the ingredients were purchased and brought, I had focused solely upon the Video project that we have received for Tourism. As of the day of the appreciation lunch, I had stayed for the cooking of the lunch. During this time, I assisted with cooking the dishes. In addition to this, after the dishes had been created, I assisted in setting up the lunch table and utensil setting along with Ishita Bhatia. During the physical lunch itself, I had assisted by serving the teachers, and cleaning during and after the lunch as well. However, the appreciation lunch would not have been possible without the cumulative efforts of the entire class. Every student contributed in their own way, making the lunch unique and successful.

Introduction Food is essential to human life, as we all are aware. Initially, hundreds of years ago, food had only been served based upon their potential benefits as well as obligatory requirements. However, moving forward from centuries ago, food is now not only served on the basis of its benefits, however, also based upon its creativity taste, and cultural/country significance. For one of our previous Tourism assignment, it had been required for students to collaborate within groups, select an individual country, and then to potentially prepare and research regarding the dishes. The following food rational a research based assignment regarding the selected three dishes that we had chosen from Mexico; Quesadillas, Empanada, and Soapapillas (An appetizer, Entree, and dessert). Initially, after selecting the three dishes that we had anticipated in making our group had gone to purchase the ingredients. Upon doing so, and practicing creating every individual dish once before hand, our group had come prepared to class with delegated measurements and ingredients. Veggie Quesadillas with Melted Mozzarella and Cheddar Course Appetizer Cuisine Mexican Prep Time 15 minutes Cook Time 15 minutes Total Time 30 minutes Servings 4 Quesadillas Ingredients · 8 small sweet tomatoes · 1 onion · ½ bell pepper (Any colour) · 2 cups fresh spinach leaves (2 cups = 60g) · 4 tbsp red pesto · 1 cup cheddar (1 cup = 100g) · 2 cups mozzarella (2 cups = 240g) · 4 whole grain tortillas Directions 1. Wash the tomatoes and pepper, peel the onions and cut them all into thin slices - the cheese too. 2. Wash the spinach and let it drain. 3. Grab a tortilla and spread a layer of pesto over half of it. A tablespoon works well. 4. Add a light layer of cheese on top and a quarter of the tomato, pepper and onion, followed by a few spinach leaves. 5. Top it with another layer of cheese. 6. Then fold the other half of the tortilla on top and place in a large frying pan (nonstick). 7. Heat for 2-3 minutes. Flip and heat for another 2-3 minutes until the cheese has melted - a good indicator is a little running out the side. 8. Pro Tip: place a heavy pot on top of the quesadilla so that it flattens nicely and cooks more evenly - this will also stop the insides escaping! If you don't like the thought of putting a pot directly on your quesadillas then put a plate between the two. Reflection; Reflecting upon the cumulative success of our dish, our group potentially believes that the Quesadillas turned out to be a successful dish. Although our attempts during our practice had become insignificantly unorganized and messy, our initial attempts at school had been a success. Empanadas Course Main (Entrée) Cuisine Mexican Prep Time 25 minutes Cook Time 15-20 minutes Total Time 50 minutes Servings 6 Empanadas Ingredients
Reflection; Although the taste and shaping of the Empanadas had come out as initially anticipated, our group had potentially felt that our Entree dish required more filling, as well as less flour. During our initial practice of the dish, our group had deduced that the Empanadas required less flour, as our batch had become overpowered with flour. However during our cooking at school, the outer shell of the Empanadas had become a little rougher than before, making the filling to be appearing as if there is not enough. However, other than this, our group had been pleased with the cumulative outcome of the dish. Mexico inspired Soapapilla cheesecake; Course Dessert Cuisine Mexican Prep Time 30 minutes Cook Time 30 minutes Total Time 60 minutes Servings 12 pieces of Soapapilla (can potentially be adjusted with cutting size)
Reflection; Reflecting upon all three dishes that our group had created, our group had been the most appeased with our dessert dish. Due to several conflicts, our group could not create the dessert that we had initially planned, which was going to be a caramelized flan. Therefore, our first attempt for this dish had been at school itself. Regardless, the sugar content of this dish was well balanced and delightful, making this the most popular dish among the three. Mr. Sharma even had seconds! Considering the different learning techniques that our group members have learned and obtained during the course of creating the dishes, our group members are significantly satisfied with the experience of creating international dishes. Through this assignment, our group members have obtained an ideology as to how to enhance flavor, appearance, and color, as well as the significant spices and tastes that represent mexico itself. This assignment, cumulatively, has been a wonderful and remarkable experience! Reflection As unambiguously recognized throughout the world, food is essential to human life. Although many might not acknowledge the fact, food had initially held more of a purpose then satisfying ones taste buds, and providing the nutrients to ones body. As shown in the Anthony Bourdain Netflix series in class, different dishes in several countries have been created for several purposes. One such example had been when Bourdain had gone to enjoy the food and a dip in an ice cold pool in ST. Petersburg. Russia. Before Bourdain had gone into the pool, he had been required to sit in a sauna for several hours - while consuming fish - in order to have the immaculate body temperature before entering the lake pool. Considering that this is a tradition in Russia, it can easily be deduced that the diets consumed throughout the world are dependent upon the traditions and customs of the individuals pursuing such diets. Another thing that I had found to be intriguing had been the several ideologies that varied towards the dished created in different countries. For example, during the episode in which Bourdain toured New York - his hometown - I had observed that the cooking methods had been much more practical and straight forward in comparison to the cooking methods utilized in Portugal. In New York, dishes and beverages had been served according to what had complimented one another, making the cumulative dish appearing balanced. However, in countries such as Portugal or Russia, the dishes had been served according to appearances as essential purposes, creating a significant difference in how the dishes had been created. Reflecting upon the experience of watching the videos, I genuinely did find the adventures of Anthony Bourdain to be interesting. I enjoyed watching how Bourdain analyzed the dishes served in several countries, all with an open-minded perspective and ideology. Although some dishes were not significantly different from other dishes, I believe that Bourdain did an excellent job in analyzing the dishes, while discussing the dishes's significant and purpose. Travelling is a wonderful way of experiencing new occurrences, that can not often be found in our regular surroundings. In fact, who does not love traveling? However, although travelling is found to be a preferable way of discovering things by many individuals, not many often contemplate upon the different effects of travelling, or just tourism, such as the economical, social, cultural, and environmental effects. During our Tourism class, our group had pursued a discussion regarding the good, bad, and ugly effects of tourism. During this discussion, several significant points had been discussed. The discussion had begun with a scenario placed by Mr. Martin;- "What would one do is he or she as travelling in a foreign country, and had seen baby chicks faced downwards in a pit. Although the traveler had been told to leave the chicks alone as it was a part of the ecosystem, what would you have done?" Soon after a few classmates had explained their answers, most of which were to save the chicks, we had been delegated another scenario;- "If you were travelling in a foreign country, and had seen that a woman and her children were being abused, what would you do?" Although several students within the class had said that they would ignore it to some extent as it is a foreign country, I had disagreed upon that particular point. Regardless of if it is a foreign country, and one is not familiarized with the country's policies, abuse is still not ethical, and should be stopped. However, instead of directly involving oneself in the abuse, I would have particularly sought help from a higher authority, or at least questioned the situation to some legal force, such as the local police. Another particular point that had been mentioned during the discussion - that I had agreed upon - had been regarding the Olympics, and what had been done during the events of the Olympics, and how the represented the negative effects of tourism, (such as displacing the unfortunate, or utilizing local resources towards the Olympics, while the particular city or country is in need of dire help.) However, there had also been a few points that had not been addressed during the discussion, which I would like to share. The following points not only discuss the positive points regarding tourism, however, it also focuses upon the negative points of Tourism.
The positive effects that tourism can consequentially cause;
The negative effects that tourism can consequentially cause;
Therefore, reflecting upon the debate and the points that I have researched, I believe that tourism is a neutral industry, however, hints towards the negative side. Although tourism may be the reason behind a country's success, it can also soon be the reasoning behind country's downfall. It genuinely depends upon how a country handles the industry in order to see the results of the industry. Therefore, I believe that although tourism my appear to be a beautiful glass piece, it can easily shatter apart if not taken care of carefully. 3/6/2017 ASSIGNMENT 2; FOOD RATIONALE; SASKATCHEWAN INSPIRED WONDROUS THREE BERRY PIE, WITH A DECONSTRUCTED PARFAIT.Read NowSaskatchewan; the province full of Canadian Pride.
Ever since being recognized as a province on September 1st, 1905, Saskatchewan has remained a province that contributes significantly towards the county's economy, and provides Canada with what we enjoy the most; fresh berries. Reflecting upon this fact, our group had decided to create a dish which potentially represents the fresh berries of Saskatchewan, which had later been decided to be a three-berry filled pie. Initially, it had been the ambition of our group to be able utilize Saskatoon berries for our pie. The plant, however - which can grow up to fifteen feet tall - is solely found in Saskatchewan, and could not have been utilized for the pie. Therefore, as a substitution for the Saskatoon berries, our group had decided to utilize strawberries, blueberries, and blackberries, which are all also grown and found in Saskatchewan. Our ambition of adding the blackberries within the pie had been for two particular reasons; the initial reason had been for a similar substitute to a berry known as the Haskap berry. Over several years, the Haskap berry has begun replacing the Saskatoon berry in Saskatchewan, as well s is somewhat similar to a blackberry. Secondly, our group had anticipated in adding a tarted flavor within the pie, as the strawberries and blueberries would seemingly become overpowering. Therefore, we had chosen to add such berries within the pie. However, along side within the Pie, our group had also decided to create a deconstructed parfait, with a granola topping. With Saskatchewan harvesting 1430 000.00 acres of oats on an annual basis, Saskatchewan has become one of the most prominent agricultural basis in the country. Therefore, inn order to show the importance of agriculture within Saskatchewan, our group had decided to potentially create a small deconstructed parfait, with light topping of granola. Besides, ice cream is an excellent side dish for a warm pie! The ingredients essential for the Saskatchewan inspired wondrous three berry pie, and Saskatchewan inspired deconstructed parfait; Saskatoon inspired wondrous Three-Berry Pie Recipe; Ingredients required for the pie: • Three-Berry Pie filling • 1 cup fresh strawberries; cut into halved pieces • Two cups of fresh blackberries • 1 ½ cups of fresh blueberries • 2/3 cup of white sugar • ¼ cup of cornstarch • Small dotted portions of butter (fingertip size. Optional.) • Pie Crust (Ready made. Homemade pie crust may be utilized if preferable. For our individual pie, we had purchased ready made frozen crust due to time restrictions.) Saskatchewan inspired deconstructed Parfait; Ingredients: • Two standard ice-cream scoops of vanilla ice-cream • Half a chocolate bar. (Hershey’s original chocolate is a preferable choice.) • Blueberries (Proportional to ice-cream scoop sizes.) • Halved Strawberries (No more than five slices) • Two complete blackberry pieces. • Granola or peanuts. (Any other forms of nuts are adequate.) Instructions as to how to create the pie! 1. Allow the frozen pie crust to thaw, untouched, for approximately fifteen minutes. As the pie crust is being thawed, it would be time efficient to create the berry mixture, as it also requires to remain untouched for fifteen minutes. 2. Once the pie crust has thawed, remove the first seal upon the pie. Upon doing so, place the crust within a pie pan, and allow the berry mixture to completely coat. During this time, preheat the oven to 375 degrees F. 3. Once the berry mixture has been created, gently pour the berry mixture into the pie crust. However, before this, if desired, sprinkle the cornstarch and sugar mixture utilized for the Three-Berry filling upon the bottom of the pie crust. 4. Once the pie crust has been filled, utilize the second layering of pie crust to cover the initial pie crust if desired. However, before applying the second lattice layer, apply small dots of butter upon the mixture. Cut approximately seven lines of the second layer leaving strips. 5. Begin alternating the strips; one going upon the other, only to go under the upcoming piece. It is similar to weaving a cloth, with the strip going under and over another strip. 6. Leave ½ inch of the covering pie crust layer over the edge of the pie. Fold the top layer under the bottom crust, sealing the layers while doing so. Pinch the sealed sections of the layers in order to create a design for the pie. 7. Bake the pie in the oven for 25 minutes. After the twenty five minutes, remove the foil. Bake the pie for an additional twenty to thirty minuets, or unless the pie crust has turned a golden brown, and the filling has begun bubbling. What about the deconstructed Parfait? 1. Upon the plate in which the piece of pie will be placed; place two scoops of ice cream side by side, or upon one another. 2. Place a layer of granola or peanuts upon the ice-cream scoop. Place the ice-cream within the refrigerator, as the ice-cream may melt as the following steps are being pursued. 3. Obtain the half chocolate bar from its wrapper, and melt it in the microwave for approximately 20 seconds. After the thirty seconds, stir the chocolate, and heat the chocolate for another twenty seconds. Continue these steps until the chocolate has been completely melted. 4. Once the chocolate has been thoroughly melted, obtain the ice-cream from the refrigerator, and drizzle the chocolate upon the granola pieces. Soon after this step has been completed, place the berries upon the drizzled chocolate granola. Considering the success of our pie, we believe hat we have created a dish that adequately represents the province Saskatchewan. Not only does the Three-berry Pie filling satisfy the craving of fresh Berries from the prairies, however, the soft pie crust and deconstructed Parfait are an additional bonus that serves the purpose of our dish; to represent Saskatchewan. 2/1/2017 Assignment 1; the occupations an indivdiual can pursue from the five major sections of the industryRead NowAccommodation; Director of Sales and Marketing Reflecting upon the information that had been delegated for this occupation, I believe that the occupation of being a director of sales and marketing is a preferable occupation, as any individual who poses strong ethical and leaderships can pursue their skills. As a student, I believe that I do pursue strong leadership skills, which would be preferable for this occupation, as the director is anticipated to manage their staff, as well as to pursue management and marketing skills. However, this occupation can also become significantly arduous as a consequential result of the work load, as well as for any conflicts that may potentially arise. Therefore, I believe that the occupation of Sales and Marketing would be a preferable occupation for individuals who can utilize their skills, time, and resources efficiently. Food and Beverage Services; Food and Beverage Manager Along with possessing leadership skills, it is essential that an individual who anticipates to become a Food and Beverage Manager possess and pursues organizational skills. As a food and Beverage Manager, it is anticipated that the manger will establish the goals and objectives for a particular setting, as well as to foresee any future casts and outcomes. Moreover, a manger is anticipated to recommend any potential improvements to their general manager, and complete daily inspections regarding the service that they are working for. Therefore, reflecting upon this, I believe that this occupation is significantly demanding, and should only be pursued by individuals who are patient, and possess a organizational skills as I had previously mentioned. Recreation & Entertainment; Heritage Interpreter As we all are aware, our heritage is our background, inherited traditions, historical monuments, culture, and certain objects. A heritage interpreter is an individual who potentially develops and allocates educational and/or cultural programs regarding their heritage, or perhaps even a heritage that belongs to a different population. However, when an individual pursues the occupation as a heritage interpreter, it becomes the sole responsibility of that individual to protect an historical resources that they may utilize, as well as to respect their environment. Moreover, as a heritage interpreter, it becomes obligatory that an individual adapts to several different learning styles, as well as to present information regarding the resources and information that they have obtained. Therefore, I believe that an individual should be able to acclimate themselves easily, as well as should be pliable in order to feel comfortable in their working conditions. Personally, I do not think that I could potentially pursue such an occupation, as I would have to present to several groups of individuals on a daily basis, which is what I am not significantly comfortable with as an individual. Transportation; Road Regardless of where an individual may go to travel, he or she will always encounter a road that she or he will be required to travel upon. In fact, according to a recent study, there is approximately 11, 194 445 kilometers of paved road within our world. Therefore, as roads are perhaps the most method that is utilized for transportation, it is bound that roads would also result into several job openings throughout the world. With the utilization of roads, there are also several road based business, which also potentially opens employment opportunities for individuals throughout the world. Consequentially, I believe that roads are a significant section of transportation, and that without roads not only would tourists be unable to travel to some of their particular attractions, however, the tourism industry would be deprived of several employment opportunities. Travel Services; Tourism Visitor Information Counselor Before an individual anticipates in traveling, it is essential and obligatory for that individual to research regarding their travel, accommodation, and hospitality services. However, if an individual faces conflicts doing so, the individual can potentially evaluate these options with a tourism visitor information counselor. Along with assisting an individual with evaluating their options, a travel information counselor can potentially promote any special event that is occurring in their area, or any other attraction that they potentially find may interest the traveler. Therefore, reflecting upon this occupation, I believe that regardless of if the intention behind the occupation is adequate, I do not significantly support the occupation. Potentially, an individual pursuing the occupation can utilize their position to provide advice to the traveler that fulfills their needs, and not of the traveler. Moreover, this occupation requires a significant amount of persuasion and evaluation, which is something I could not potentially compel towards another individual. Therefore, I do not significant prefer this occupation, although I do consider it to be an adequate option. |
